Birthday Card by Chris

I couldn’t resist. Remember Lori’s sweet numeral 3 card using her Gypsy and Hello Kitty cart? Well, I have a grandson who loves Superman and has a 3-year birthday coming up, so I decided to adapt her card. I used SCAL3 with my Black Cat and made one numeral 3 at approximately 4 7/8 x 4 ¼. (The font was Cooper Black.)  I then made a shadow layer which I duplicated, flipped vertically and unioned into a topfold card. I cut the cardbase from blue cardstock and the top layer from red and used my ATG to put them together.  I trimmed the bottom of the 3 a fraction of an inch so it would stand and then colored the superkid with my Copics. I just love my paint dauber, which was just the perfect size for coloring in the yellow circle with Mustard Seed Distress Ink. I added the “g” with a mini stamp I have and attached him with an action wobble. Another birthday card done with many thanks to Lori for the original idea.

Tutorial Tuesday With Fran

 

This is my first tutorial I’ve done for the Cutters Creek Blog.  It will be a photo tutorial and I hope you will understand the steps I took to get the results using Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam Glitter Paint.  (Currently this product is not stocked in the store however you can contact Kim through Cutters Creek and she can special order it for you). Oh my do I love that paint.  I only have one color right now called Anchorage but will be getting more!  So I painted my paper and elements with the paint to get an almost monochromatic look. It was an experiment but the outcome is awesome.

Photo One:  I used Echo Park paper (This & That Charming 6 x6” Pad).  The photo below shows the paper (1) in its original form.  Paper (2) being painted with the Glimmer Glam Glitter paint.  And (3) final look after misting the paper with water, crinkled it tightly and flatten it out gingerly to dry.

Photo Three:  Shows how I used the painted paper to make my flower using Tim Holtz’s Alterations Tattered Florals. The darker paper was a dark bronze paper from my stash that I also painted with the Glimmer Glam Glitter paint to give it more of a sheen.

Photo Four:  Shows my second element  a Kaiser Wooden Flourish colored with the Glimmer Glam Glitter paint.  I thought that it would not cover like I hoped but it did better than I hoped.  I loved how it turned out! (The photo just does not do it justice). 

Photo Five:  The last element painted was winter white seam binding.  What I did was pour some of the paint on my non stick craft mat and just rolled the seam binding in the paint; almost like finger painting.

Photo Six:  Results after covering all the seam binding with the paint.  Once the seam binding dried it no longer had that soft feel to it.  It became stiff so I knew that a bow would not look as pretty. So I pleated the seam binding on my project.  (Loved the look).

 

Now for my finished project that I named You Are Sew Special To Me.

Father's Day Blog Hop

Welcome to the Cutters Creek Design Team Fathers Day Blog Hop! We want you to hop along with us and play for the Grand Prize The objective for our Blog Hop this weekend is to inspire you to create something beautiful for all of the "Fathers" in your life! We have a bit of everything, from cards to gift ideas to layouts about our fathers!

Take an old pink and white frame, a bit of paint, and Graphic 45 paper and turn it into a Father’s Day gift. The first bit of transformation was painting the whole frame with black acrylic paint and then slathering it with Vintage Photo Distress Crackle Paint. Once it dries and cracks, rub some Black Soot Distress ink into the cracks and rub off the excess with a soft cloth. Next take your chipboard letters and glue them to Graphic 45 paper. These used two sheets from the Olde Curiosity Shoppe pads and some Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue. Once they were dry I inked the edges using Gathered Twigs for the word Pappy and Peacock Feathers for the We and U, and I used Glossy Accents to add some shine to the bottom letters.

I then chose a coordinating cardstock (also from the Olde Curiosity Shoppe set) and covered the mat. I used Scor-Tape to adhere it to the backside. To add a bit more depth I stuck a piece of Inkssentials Foil tape sheets to a remnant piece of cardstock and cut it with Tim Holtz’s On the Edge Steampunk.  I used several different alcohol inks to age it and then glued to the mat with Glossy Accents. Next I took one of the Kaisercraft Wood Flourishes (hearts) and covered it with Ruby Diamond Range Flower Soft using the Flower Soft Glue.

While everything was drying, I punched a few butterflies out of leftover foil tape and Graphic 45 papers, layered them and glued them around the mat. I used mini glue dots to hold Pappy angled from the frame to the mat, Glue Dots pop dots for the letter w, and on everything else I used glossy accents again.  I needed one more embellie and turned to my Tim Holtz tickets and his stick pins, colored them with all three of the new Distress Inks (Peacock Feathers, Shaded Lilac, and Squeezed Lemonade—these are absolutely gorgeous colors!), and pushed it into the mat.

Graduation Spring Card—with a Twist by Chris

Make a spring card base—5.25x10.5 folded in half to make a 5.25 square—my blue paper. I then opened the paper back up and folded the right side underneath to the center. This will allow the base of the card to face the back-side of the spring instead of the front-side. I then followed the rest of the directions on the Splitcoaststampers site.

To finish off my card I cut a square out of yellow and used score tape to put it inside the lid. It was about a 3.5-inch square. The school mascot was traced in inkscape and the vinyl was cut using SCAL3. I added a few words to my niece and then, I cut another 3.5-inch square out of black and made a tassel. (While the school colors are blue and gold, my niece kept telling me she was wearing all black, so….) I attached the tassel by pulling and knotting a thread through the center and then scor taped down on the top of the card. The bottom inside was a 5-inch square that I printed a sentiment from the internet and trimmed to fit inside.

Altered Box by Pebbles

My first wooden box!

 

 

I was in my local Dollar Tree, and I came across a couple of little wooden boxes. They measure a little over 3.5x3.5, and they have hinges on them as well as a little small magnet to keep it closed. I grabbed them up and figured I would eventual do something with them...couldn't leave them there, especially only costing a $1.00 a piece! Sorry for all the pics, but I wanted to capture as much detail as possible. :)

This is the natural box when I bought it. Nice and clean! 

I used some alcohol ink to kind of stain the box. As you can see, my fingers were pretty orange by the time I was done! I'm a hands on kind of girl! :) 

I used my Prima Paper Pad-Annalee collection on the top and both layers all around the box. I used some Color me Crazy flowers on the top of the box for the start of my embellishment process. I inked the bottom flower with Glimmer Mist. I inked the second one lightly with a orange ink pad and then adorned it with a small crochet flower and added a pearl bead in the center. The rest of my embellishments, are from my stash from previous projects.

 

 

Trying to be a little more creative, I added some large beads to the bottom as feet! I had a ball creating this! Thanks for looking! 

Tutorial Tuesday: Enhance Your Embossing by Laura C

The project today is a tag I made using an embossing folder, and I've got a short video on how I enhanced the simple embossed look with different products to get the final result here:

I apologize the video has a "strange" ending....we had some technical difficulties....lol....and then couldn't "merge" the final video.  But the finished project is, of course, in the pic above!  So here is the video on adding texture with an Embossing Folder, Distress Ink, Paint Daubers, and Glimmer Mist and how different each of these looks can be:

So in the end, my "whitewashed" wooden tag, is finished off with a few touches of a die cut border a little Stickles bling, a stamped sentiment, and a second tag of acrylic layered on top, a stamped floral image with Staz-On ink,and brushed around the edges with more paint dauber.
