Just A Note To Say….by Fran

 

I tried a new technique (for me) on my card.  I’ve been wanting to use embossing paste for a while now and thought this was as good as time as any.  I used a stencil called Garden Whimsy Branch by Memory Box.  And the embossing paste is by Studio 490. 

 

Details:  All papers used are from my stash.  I used water color paper for my embossed background.  Once the embossing paste dried I colored the leaves using Distress Ink Pad in Mowed Lawn (my favorite green color).  In between the card base and the embossing layer is a layer of green card stock that matched the mowed lawn.  I wrapped a vellum band around the card and placed a label created on my Silhouette using the Print and Cut feature.  Inside I stenciled a smaller branch in mowed lawn and used the silhouette to cut out the sentiment “Hello”.

I thought it would be hard using embossing paste but it only took me two tries to get the look I wanted.  I plan to use this technique more often.

Pull out your stencils and embossing paste and have some fun with it.  So what if you don’t get it the first time.  You know it takes practice to do a new technique.  Once you get the look you are after then the rest is easy.  And I would love if you share your embossing paste technique with the Cutters Creek Online Group.

My new passion is water coloring.  I was so surprised how easy it is to water color.  And the best part it doesn’t have to be perfect!  My card today is water coloring stamped images.

 

My card design was inspired by this You Tube Video.

Water coloring With Distress Inks

DETAILS:

The card is 5-1/4” square.  I used water color paper that is 140 lb. weight and cold pressed.  Paint medium used is Distress Ink by Ranger.  The stamp used is called Favorite Flowers.  I placed tiny sequins and rhinestones on the front of the card for a little bling.  And I used glossy accents to hold the sequins in place.   What I love about water coloring is all the imperfections that happen once it dries and yet it has such a neat look.  You should try water coloring you would love how easy it is.  If you have Distressed Inks in your stash then all you need is some water, water color brush, and water color paper.  Using Distress Inks makes water coloring FUN!

Happy Father’s Day by Fran

 

Details:  The BBQ Monkey is a digital image by Digi Boutique.  The image was colored using Inktense Pencils.  Everything is held together using Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive.  Digital papers and black check printed paper are from my stash.  The envelope was created using the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board.  The card is 5-1/4” square.  The envelope is 5-1/2” square.  Other tools used were Paint Shop Pro and the Silhouette Portrait.

I made this card for my younger grandsons to give to their Dad.  My son-in-law loves to cook especially on the grill.  I think he will get a charge out of the card.

I love cards that have many layers and lots of dimension but there are times you just don’t have the time to spend on elaborate cards.  Do you ever feel that way?  So I am working on making more simplistic cards that are appealing to the eyes.  I was inspired by a card I saw on the Internet.  Below are the details.

Details:  The card measures 5-1/4” square.  For the the odd size cards I use my Envelope Punch Board by We R Memory Keepers to make my envelopes.  This was a special order through Kim.

  The three strips on the card are not any particular size.  You make them the size that appeals to you according to the size of your card base (make them a little wider than the card base).  I used a 6x6” paper pack from my stash so that the strips blended with each other.  I glued them on an angle and trimmed the edges to match the card base edge. 

The Flowers were made using a die from Memory Box called Petal Party. I used the remnants from the strips of paper to make the flowers. Then added a rhinestone in the centers for some added bling.  Love that bling! 

The sentiment “Hello” was cut on my Silhouette Portrait that I ordered through Kim.  Tip: When you have a delicate and very thin sentiment like the “hello” gluing it can be messy and frustrating.  So I squeezed some glue on my craft mat and spread it out thinly with my finger.  Then I placed the “Hello” on top of the glue using slight pressure.  You get just the right amount of glue and there is no glue mess.

Inside I just added 1/2” strips using the same printed card stock that is on the front of the card.  Added a flower using the same card stock I used on the front of the card too.  This look brings the outside to the inside.

The best part of one layer cards is they are so easy to mail and the postage is so affordable.

The Reader

Details:  The card measures approx. 5” by 6”.  The shaped card is from the Silhouette Store.  I used Neenah 80# Solar White card stock.  The image is by Saturated Canary called “Reader”.  I used Copic markers to color the skin.  And Promarkers for the rest of the image.  The shading was done using Tea Dye Distress Ink Pad.  And the glitter dots were created using Stickles, Platinum.  The sentiment is from the Internet and created using Paint Shop Pro.  And I added Glossy Accents to the glasses for effect.

I’ve been experimenting with water coloring and today my card has been water colored using the *Limited Edition* Spring Seasonal Distress Pads (Peacock Feathers, Squeezed Lemonade, and Shaded Lilac).  The process is so easy adding a small amount of water to the ink and dabbing it on water color paper (Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Cardstock).  The flowers, bow, stamps are from my stash. (I dyed the ribbon using Squeezed Lemonade distress ink pad). Added a small amount of Stickles (Black Diamond) on the filigree swirls. Plus a little Wink of Stella Clear Glitter on the words “Thank You”.  My card size is 4-1/4” by 5-1/2”.  Everything is held together with Scrap Perfect Best Glue Ever.

Have A Sweet Day by Fran

 

The image is by Sassy Cheryl and I remember going to a drug store as they were called back when I was young.  I would love to sit at the counter and order a Root Beer Float.  One time I bought a banana split and two of my friends and I shared  it.  Oh it was so good!  And my favorite Sundae was a Chocolate Nut Sundae with a cherry on top.  Did I stir up any memories for any one?

I love round shaped cards.  It was so much fun coloring this image.  I used both Copic markers and Promarkers.  My card measures 5-1/2”.  The card base, printed papers, elements (gears and light bulb) are from my stash.  The sentiment was created in Paint Shop Pro.  I used Glossy Accents to hold things together.  And Shabby Shutters Distress Ink was used to color the edges of the all layers on the card.  I used a mini ink blending tool to apply the shabby shutters.

Love Is In The Air! By Fran

 

The digital stamp is called First Love by Sassy Cheryl.  And so I took it one step further and made it mine with Love Is In The Air!  I was going for whimsy but maybe I over did it. But any who I still like how it turned out.

My Recipe:  My card is 4-3/4” by 6”.  All elements were cut on my Silhouette machine except for the butterflies (MS Punch).

The background paper is watercolor paper.  I used the new Tim Holtz Spritzer (my new favorite item) and Distress markers in two colors and spritz the paper.  Then I used a paintbrush to water color in the sky.  If you haven’t bought yourself one of those spritzers you are missing out on a awesome tool.  It is not hard to use once you find your rhythm.  I used the new smaller blending tool to enhance the edges.  And Glossy Accents which is my most favorite medium.

All the coloring was done with several different mediums:  Copic Markers, Prisma Colored Pencils, Inktense Pencil, Distress Ink Pads and Markers, and Wink of Stella Glitter brushes

Copic Markers:  Olive, Apricot, Golden Yellow, Baby Blue, Veronese Green, Frost Blue, Light Grayish Cobalt, Pink Flamingo, Egg Shell, Brick Beige, Warm Gray #3, and Blush.

Prisma Colored Pencils:   Chocolate, Ginger Root, and Denim Blue.

Inktense Pencil:: Dark Chocolate

Distress Ink Pad: Stormy Sky

Distress Markers: Stormy Sky and Tumbled Glass

Ballerina by Fran

 

The Star of my card is Abi Ballerina.  She is a digital image by All Dressed Up.  Abi was colored using both Copic Markers and Promarkers.  The card base is made from 110# Solar White and measures 5-1/2” by 6-3/4” (portrait style).

Abi was colored on 110# card stock, solar white.  The mat behind Abi is water color paper. What I did was take three shades of Distress Ink (Worn Lipstick, Tattered Rose, & Peacock Feathers) and rubbed the colors on my work mat.  Sprayed them with water and placed the water color paper on the distress inks.  I loved how it turned out.  Then I measured out a border to add Stickles around the edge (Dry Fine Glitter, Diamond) by Ranger.

The small frame was made using a mold and covered with Fran-tage Shaved Ice fragments by Stampendous.  I added a dashed lines using Gelly Roll Glitter Pen (stardust).  And more of the glitter pen on the TuTu and around Abi.  Remaining embellishments on the corners are sequins and pearls.  And I used Glossy Accents for my adhesive.

Rock Star! By Fran

 

I made this card with my oldest grandson in mind.  He will be 17 in April! Where does the time go?  I used a digital image by Simply B Stamps.  What a challenge for me when it came to coloring the image.  But I do have to say it came out nicely. Below is a photo of the card and you can tell me what you think.

Details:  Cardstock by Neenah – Embellishments by Fran using a You Rock Digital Papers and Elements by Ziggle Designs – The hands are a font called Zoeilyhands – Star is a Die Cut called Stacking Stars – Glossy Accents Wink of Stella Clear Glitter used on hands and star to create added dimension –Image colored with Copics (C3, C5, C7 Grey on Suit); (C5, C7, C9 on Hair); Guitar (Boo); (E47 dark brown, Eyes); (E000, E00, E11, R20 Skin); Small dots around image created with a Sakura Gel Pen (Blue Glaze).  Last but not least the card is all held together using Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive. And 3-D padded foams for dimension.

Raven Hair Beauty by Fran

 

I found a free digital image that I love.  But I had no clue on how I was gone to color it.  After much thought I chose my Copic Markers.  The image is mostly colored black but using dark greys to give it the appearance of looking black.  Black and red are the hardest colors to blend and shade.  But I think it turned out pretty good.  The rest of the colors came from the “E” family of Copic Markers.  I Just used the Warm Greys and Skin tone colors.  I used a Prisma colored pencil, white for the highlights on the hair.

The card dimensions are 5-1/2” by 6”.  The card base is made from Bazzill Simply Smooth, white card stock.  The other papers are from my stash.  The corners and filigree came from the Silhouette store and cut using the Silhouette.  I popped up the image using 3-D Adhesive Foam Pads.  The image’s ears and belt are decorated with Gold Vinyl stickers. And I added the same colored vinyl stickers to the borders of the black card stock.  I used two types of adhesive: ATG Tape Glider and Glossy Accents.  And to finish the card off I used a Wink of Stella Brush marker in Clear Glitter.

Howdy-Do! By Fran

 

I really had fun coloring this image by Sassy Cheryl called a Simple Bunch of Flowers.  It was not hard to keep a smile on your face while coloring her.  Let me know what you think.

Details:  Card base is 5-3/4” square.  The shape of the card was cut using a Silhouette Portrait.  Card base is made from Bazzill Basics, Simply Smooth White.  The remaining papers are from my stash. The image was colored using Inktense Paint Pencils and Copic markers for the skin (E00, Eo1, E11, & R20) my favorite colors for skin).  The buttons on the dress and shoes were accented with Enamel Accents (dimensional faux enamel) made by Inkssentials, Ranger.  I used a Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper (Deco) to create the corners of the image.  The rosette and button was cut using the Silhouette and the button is decorated with stickles and Scrappers Twine. The sentiment was created on the computer and then cut to create the banner. And I used Distress Ink to the edges of the banner.  On the image I used Glossy Accents to the centers of both flowers.  And some Wink of Stella Clear Glitter.

I fell in love with this digital image that I used on my card and just knew I had to color her up and make a card.  I am pretty sure I will give it to my hubby for Valentine’s Day even though it has a bow on it.

 

Details:  My card is a standard A2 card (4.25x5.5 inches).  The base of the card is made from Bazzill Simply Smooth Cardstock 8.5"X11"-White. There 6 layers including the image layer on the front of the card.  I colored the Bazzill white layers (edges) with pink and red glitter pens.  And the black card stock is by Neenah.  The image is by Sassy Cheryl and is called Smitten. I colored her using Inktense Ink Pencils except for the skin.  I used Copic Markers to color the skin (E00, E01, E11, RV21).  The lady bug on the hat, buttons on the shoes and center of flower on the hat was accented with Inkssentials Glossy Accents.  The heart buttons were hand made using a heart mold.  Then I colored them using a Wink of Stella Glitter Brush in Red.

The inside of the card is made from Neenah Black Card stock and the pink card stock is from my scraps.  The sentiment is part of the digital stamp image.  And the falling hearts were die cut to get the various sizes and colored them to match the front of the card.

The card is held together using Tombow Mono Aqua (liquid glue) and Hot glue was used to adhere the buttons and bow.

HAPPY NEW YEAR by Fran

 

I think I got my glitter fix making this card, lol.   I have a stamp set called Dot Spot.  I placed the various dots on my Fiskars Stamp press in the pattern I wanted for my card.  Added VersaMark Watermark to the various dot stamps and stamped the front of the card.   Then to get the WOW effect I wanted I coated the stamped dots with WOW! Embossing Powder (Metallic Platinum Sparkle). The Happy New Year sentiment and banner were created using the Portrait Silhouette. And used 3-D foam pads behind the banner for dimension.   I added the Metallic Platinum Sparkle embossing powder to the edges of the banner using VersaMark Watermark.  Oh a little, just a little Wink of Stella Clear Glitter on the sentiment.

On the inside of the card I cut a 4-1/2” square in white cardstock. I added some of the dots (embossed with metallic platinum sparkle) on two corners to bring the front of the card inside.   And I added silver glitter tape* to the top and bottom edges.

The overall size of the card is 5-1/2” square.

*Glitter Tape was purchased from Cutters Creek’s one of many clubs offered by Kim Bush.  The clubs offer a number of various creating supplies for a set cost each month for 6 months.  The clubs enable you to build on your supplies.

Twelve Days of Christmas–Day 10 by Fran

 

My project today was created using the Snowman Blueprint by Sizzix.   It comes with both the stamps and dies to help you achieve a complete look.  I special ordered it from Kim Bush of the Cutters Creek Online Store.

I was a little anxious about how it all will work together for me.  And I was thoroughly surprised how easy it was to get the layered look that Tim Holtz demonstrated at the Summer CHA 2013.  Here is the video if you would like to watch Tim demonstrate.

Snowman Blueprint

Details:  I stamped the snowman on  Tim Holtz’s Distress Watercolor Cardstock.  The various layers of the snowman were cut and layered like Tim demonstrated in the video. 

I colored the pieces using my new watercolor pencils called Inktense by Derwent.  They are a pencil to ink in one wash application.  They are the best of both worlds: the vibrancy of ink with the subtlety of pencils.  Once dried the color is permanent. 

I used Neenah Ivory Card Stock for the card base and blueprint image behind the snowman.  The dark blue paper is from my stash.  The snowflakes were colored using Distress Ink Broken China then I applied Glossy Accents to each of the snowflakes and covered them with Distress Glitter – Clear rock Candy.  The edge of the card was colored with Distress Ink Broken China.

I used lots of foam pads to give the card and snowman dimension.  I added a hint of  Wink of Stella Clear and Silver Glitter to the snowman and the sentiment.

The size of  the card measures approximately 5-1/2” by 6-1/2”.

Twelve Days of Christmas–Day 5 by Fran

 

Welcome to the Cutters Creek Design Team’s “Twelve days of Christmas”.  We are so happy you are joining us.  Today is the 5th day of our event.  Here is my contribution.

Details:  The Card and Front Panel are made from Kraft Card Stock.  The checkered paper is from my stash to match the Kraft Card Stock.  The Holly embellishments are by Kaiser Craft Wood Flourishes.  I added the berries for more dimension and they are made from paper clay.  I colored the berries using Festive Berries Distress Paint by Tim Holtz.  The holly leaves were painted with Evergreen Bough Distress Paint also.  And for a little extra pazazz I used Inka Gold by Viva (Gold and Green yellow) on the Holly embellishments. 

The snow flakes were punched using a Martha Stewart punch. I coated the snowflakes with Inkssentials Glossy Accents and covered them with Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter (this glitter is awesome – I love it!).  On the centers of the snowflakes I used vinyl sticker dot sparklers in red.  And added Glossy Accents to the tips of the snowflakes.

The sentiment was cut using the Silhouette Portrait.  I used a Wink of Stella glitter brush in gold to color the sentiment.  And behind the sentiment is covered with the Clear Glitter using the Wink of Stella brush (you can use a Glitter Pen to get the same affect).  Then I added Glossy Accents dots in background.  And finished off the card using a Gelly Roll pen in white to make the dashes.

You are probably thinking I went crazy with glitter and glossy accents and you are right!  I couldn’t stop, lol.  But I love how it turned out.  I hope you do too.

The Key To A Better Future Starts With You!

 

That’s the theme for my tag.  I really had fun making this tag.  I basically stayed with one color.  And what made it so easy were all the products I had in my stash to get that monochromatic look.

What I did first was use some collage tissue paper by 7 Gypsies from the Journey Collection.  I used mod podge to adhere the tissue to a piece of card stock.  Then I used Glue N’ Seal by Inkssentials in a matte finish to protect the tissue paper from moisture.  I cut several strips of the tissue to make the small flowers. The steampunk padlocks were made using a silicone mold and paper clay.  I embossed the padlocks with Aged Ochre Embossing Powder by Stampendous.  The memo pins in the flowers are from Tim Holtz’s idea-ology line. I covered one of the pins also with Aged Ochre Embossing Powder.  The other memo pin holds the theme message created on the Silhouette.  The wooden Key is by KaiserCrafts.  I painted the key with three shades of *Distress Paints to get a patina look (pumice stone, rusty hinge, & peeled paint).  Then I added some *Distress Glitter (tarnished brass).

Clean and Simple is what my card is all about.  I dug out an old leaf image rubber stamp to use as my focal point.  I used Memento Rich Cocoa Ink for the leaf. Then I colored it with a Spica pen in Melon Green.  And added orange and clear glitter with my *Wink of Stella Brush.  (I am so addicted to these glitter brushes).  I added Aged Spice and Aged Hunter embossing powders by Stampendous called Fran-Tage. The Border paper is from my stash.  The button was made using a silicone mold and some Martha Stewart paper clay.  And I added more Aged Spice and Aged Hunter to the button.  My card is 5-1/2” square.  And the base of the card is Kraft card stock.  Everything is held together using a Tombow Adhesive Tape Runner.

Card Details: 

Card Base, Tag, and banner all made using Neenah Card Stock in Ivory. 

Pink paper from my stash was dry embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder called Mesh.

Fran-tage on the tag and butterfly is called Shabby pink and Shabby Blue.  Plus I added Aged Gold.  In addition I added some Shaved Ice fragments that gives a Mother of Pearl look.

The tag was cut using my Cuttlebug and a Die by Marianne Design Creatables (LR0154).

The flowers, butterfly, and pink filigree swirls are from my stash.

I used Antique Linen Distress Ink on the edges of the card and banner for a vintage look.

And the card is held together using two of my favorite adhesives: Glossy Accents and Tombow Permanent Adhesive.

Attached adhesive pads to the banner for dimension.  And the banner was created in Paint Shop Pro adding the small butterfly on the corner.

All the flowers were painted with a Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush.  And the pink filigree swirls were painted with Clear Glaze 3-D Glossy Ink pen by Sakura.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

 

The Cutters Creek Design Team is dedicated to raise awareness through our projects and for today I made a tag.  Tags are one of my favorite things to create.  In my stash I have some tags made of metal foil.  After doing some research I found how cool the metal foil tags look embossed.

I embossed my tag with a Sizzix embossing folder called Flowers.  It’s the A2 size which was perfect for the size of my tag (approx. 2-1/2” x 4-3/4”).

I used my Cuttlebug to emboss the tag.  I don’t know if you are like me but some of my craft supplies have dust on them from not using them much.  But I finally dusted off two of my Adirondack Alcohol Inks in Wild Plum and Red Pepper.  I don’t have many colors but I was hoping that these two colors would give me a nice pink color.  It turns out that I got a very deep pink which I loved a lot.   I took an applicator felt and applied it to the applicator tool.  A few drops of each color goes a long way.  Plus I added some Adirondack Blending Solution to help lighten the color.  Then I spread the color on my embossed tag (both sides).  Once the ink dried I sanded the embossed tag to take some of the color off to expose the silver metal foil.  I love how it turned out.  And I would love to know what you think.

I added the word HOPE (used clear glitter using a Wink of Stella glitter brush).   And added some pretty ribbon and braided pink trim.

I used a Tombow Mono Adhesive Permanent Dispenser on the ribbon to hold in place.  I glued the word Hope using Inkssentials Glossy Accents since I was gluing to metal foil.  And some hot glue to the braided ribbon to keep it in place.
